History:
The concept of a nocturnal park in Singapore was suggested in the 1980s by the former executive chairman of the Singapore Zoo, Dr Ong Swee Law. Constructed at a cost of S$63 million, the Night Safari was officially opened on 26 May 1994 and occupies 35 hectares (86 acres) of secondary rainforest adjacent to the Singapore Zoo and Upper Seletar Reservoir. It is the first night-themed zoo world wide
After paying the entrance fee go straight forward and follow the path to the left, home to possums and wallabies. Following the path we meet the Malayan tiger, anoa, babirusa, bongo, spotted hyena and the sloth bear. At the tram stop tun right to see the savannah befor you head back to the Zebra cafe. Turn to the left and meet the clouded leopard and the lion. Back to the main path on the right is an aviary for the giant squirrel. If entering you have to take a walk around the Zebra Cafe again. Afterwards its time to see the hog badger, leopard cats, fruit bats, northern giant cloud rat and the leopard. Now turn right and meet the striped hyena and the barasinghas. Then it is time for the slow loris, here you turn right. Time to meet the Indian gharial, pangolin, binturongs and mousedeer. Then it is time to take the free 45 minutes tram ride. On our tour we meet bharal, markhor, nyala, cape buffalo, hippos, Malan tapirs, Asian elephants, Indian rhino and the mighty Gaur.
